There’s a new pistol light in town.

I remember when you could snag a Surefire X300 for less than $200.00. Nowadays, they’ve surged to $323.00, which certainly sparked my interest in the new Modlite PL350c, priced at $309.
Before diving into flashlight specifics, let’s touch on Lumens and Candela.
Lumens measure total light output (brightness), while Candela focuses on beam intensity and its reach. Ultimately, your choice of light depends on your particular needs. The PL-350C boasts 876 Lumens with 18,000 Candela, whereas the standard Surefire X300 (non-Turbo model) offers 1000 Lumens and 11,300 Candela.
The PL-350C package includes the complete light, a 18350 battery, (2) rail lugs, and an extra screw. I had to watch their YouTube video to understand placement of the rail lugs, which essentially offers a universal and 1913 rail lug option based on your pistol mount.
Positioning-wise, the two lug positions can be rotated to adjust the light’s proximity to the pistol, a feature I appreciate due to varying human grips and shooting styles.
Switches are a standout feature for me. They feel crisp, tactile, and don’t wobble in the center when toggling them on or off. Similar to the TLR-1 switches but not as sloppy like your mom.
Mounting requires a T20 Torx bit (unfortunately not included), which may not suit those who frequently swap lights between pistols. However, for me, it’s ideal; once tightened (using a torque wrench at 18lbs), the light remained securely in place and unlike the X300B which utilizes a thumb screw which can sometimes loosen up I don’t see this happening here.
Regarding holsters, I’ve tested the light on my Gen 5 Glock 17 with two Safariland RDS holsters, and it fits without issue.
In conclusion, I believe Modlite did a great job. The light meets my brightness needs, fits snugly into my holsters, and grips the pistol frame tighter than your sister.
While I’m not a regular user of pistol lights in my everyday carry (EDC), I can’t speak to the benefits of size reduction. Nonetheless, I recall their previous pistol lights requiring Safariland holster modifications.
As much as I’d enjoy delving into Lumens and Candela further, I’m afraid I’m running late to pick up someone’s mom.
